Symbicort Turbohaler therapies

Remind yourself how your doctor has prescribed your inhaler: have they asked you to take it for maintenance therapy, reliever therapy or as MART (Maintenance and Reliever Therapy)?

View the cards below to find out more about your type of therapy.

100/200/400 dose 100/200/400 dose

Maintenance therapy (Turbohaler 100/6, 200/6, 400/12)

With this treatment plan you take your Symbicort Turbohaler every day to help prevent asthma symptoms.

Your doctor will also have given you a separate 'reliever' inhaler for symptoms when they happen.

Keep your reliever inhaler with you at all times and use it if you get asthma symptoms.

100/200/400 dose 100/200/400 dose

Maintenance and reliever therapy (MART) (Turbohaler 100/6, 200/6)

With this treatment plan you use your Symbicort Turbohaler as both a preventer and a reliever.

Take it every day to help prevent asthma symptoms (maintenance).
Also use it to relieve symptoms when they happen (reliever).

Always keep your Symbicort Turbohaler with you and use it as your reliever inhaler when you need it.

100/200/400 dose 100/200/400 dose

Reliever therapy (Turbohaler 200/6)

You may also hear reliever therapy called anti-inflammatory reliever (AIR) therapy.

With this treatment plan you take Symbicort Turbohaler as-needed when you have asthma symptoms.

It helps open your airways so you can breathe more easily.

You do not need a separate reliever inhaler.

Always keep your Symbicort Turbohaler with you and use it when needed.

Seek urgent medical advice if your inhaler doesn't relieve your asthma symptoms or if your asthma symptoms get worse even though you are taking your Symbicort as you have been prescribed.
